Aggressive Dog Training

I am confident I can help you with your dog’s aggressive behaviour.

Dog aggression can manifest in various forms, such as aggression toward other dogs and people or when feeding. It may arise due to fear, territoriality, or lack of socialisation. Addressing aggression typically involves behaviour modification strategies and desensitisation techniques.

Most dog trainers in Norwich do not work with aggressive dogs. However, I am passionate about this area and have become a specialist in behaviour modification for aggressive dogs. Call me today to book your consultation at your home in Norwich.

Dog Recall Training

Peace of mind that your dog will come when called

Dog recall training is one of the essential skills I teach at Charles Gray Dog Training. It’s all about teaching dogs to return to you when called, no matter the distractions around them. This process strengthens the bond between the dog and its owner, enhances trust and safety, and removes the stress of worrying your dog will run off.

I like to start in a controlled environment where distractions are minimal. I encourage the desired behaviour using positive reinforcement techniques, such as treats and praise. As the dogs become more confident, we gradually transition to more challenging settings, introducing distractions that mimic real-life scenarios.

 Dog Lead Training

No more pulling on the lead is a call away

As a dog trainer, I often encounter dogs that pull while walking, and I’ve found that this behaviour frequently stems from overexcitement or a lack of proper lead training. Teaching loose-lead walking techniques can make a world of difference. I emphasise the importance of using the right equipment, like harnesses, which can help promote better behaviour during our walks. Distractions can lead dogs to pull on their leads. I recommend placing something on the ground your dog is eager to reach, such as a favourite toy. When your dog begins to pull towards the toy, stop walking and call them back to you. It is rewarding to see the transformation when the dog and owner feel more connected and comfortable on their daily excursions.

Separation Anxiety

Leave your dog at home without the guilt

As a Norwich-based dog trainer with years of experience, I’ve seen how challenging separation anxiety can be for dogs and their owners. Dogs suffering from this condition often display significant distress when left alone, which can lead to destructive behaviours, vocalisation, and attempts to escape. I’ve found that a combination of strategies can effectively help. Gradual desensitisation is key, where dogs are slowly conditioned to be alone for short periods, gradually increasing the time. Crate training can also be beneficial, providing a safe space when done correctly; creating positive associations with the crate using their favourite toys and bedding is essential. Help with your dog’s separation anxiety is at hand; give us a call.

Dog Jumping Up Training

A calm greeting for you and your guests

I frequently see dogs jumping up on people as a greeting, which many perceive as friendly, but it can be overwhelming, especially with larger breeds. I emphasise teaching alternative greetings and encouraging owners to reward their dogs for sitting or remaining calm when meeting someone. This creates a more pleasant experience for guests and helps dogs learn to express excitement appropriately. Positive reinforcement is key; rewarding calm behaviour with treats or affection reinforces the desired action. In my dog training sessions with reinforcement, we can minimise jumping and develop a respectful way for dogs to connect with others, leading to a rewarding transformation for both dogs and their owners. This common problem is easily fixed.

Frequently Asked Questions

My training is 100% one-on-one, allowing personalized focus on your dog without distractions from other dogs. Each session is conducted in your home, ensuring a comfortable environment for effective learning.

I begin with an in-depth home visit to understand your dog’s environment and behaviors. From there, I create a customized plan that suits your dog’s personality and specific needs, using proven, humane methods.

My program covers a wide range of challenges, including recall issues, leash pulling, separation anxiety, excessive barking, aggression, hyperactivity, and more. Each plan is designed to eliminate the issues that matter most to you.

Training success relies on daily reinforcement. I work closely with you to create a realistic plan, and if adjustments are needed, I offer free phone consultations to ensure both you and your dog are on the path to success.

Our journey begins with a 60-90 minute home visit to discuss your goals, observe your dog’s behaviour, and build a customized plan. This foundation helps ensure the training is effective, enjoyable, and tailored to your lifestyle.

The session will last for 1.5-2.0 hours and take place in and around your home. During this time, I will have an in-depth discussion with you about the issues you are facing and the dog’s background, including any medical issues. Thereafter I will begin the training with as many members of the household present as possible, so I can teach you the appropriate tips and techniques to use following my visit. The training will also include an explanation of what your dog’s needs are to enable it to have a relaxed and respectful relationship. Thereafter I provide FREE TELEPHONE ADVICE for the duration of the dog’s life. I will of course, gladly return for a second visit but in 90% of cases I only need to see my clients once.
