As a dog trainer, I often encounter dogs that pull while walking, and I’ve found that this behaviour frequently stems from overexcitement or a lack of proper lead training. Teaching loose-lead walking techniques can make a world of difference. I emphasise the importance of using the right equipment, like harnesses, which can help promote better behaviour during our walks. Distractions can lead dogs to pull on their leads. I recommend placing something on the ground your dog is eager to reach, such as a favourite toy. When your dog begins to pull towards the toy, stop walking and call them back to you.
