Dog Behaviourist Norwich

dog aggression training Norwich

Many dog behaviour problems come down to one thing: the dog has taken on a role it was never meant to carry. As a dog behaviourist serving Norwich and Norfolk, I help owners understand what’s really driving their dog’s behaviour — and give them a simple set of rules and techniques that produce visible change, often within hours of my visit.

Whether your dog is showing aggression, anxiety, obsessive behaviour, reactivity, or simply won’t listen, the root cause is almost always the same. I don’t use treats or complicated reward systems — I use clear, space-based techniques that any owner can maintain. Most cases are resolved in a single visit. Call me today on 07438 340058. What to expect

Importance of understanding your dog’s behaviour

Aggression & Biting

Arrow Down

Whether directed at people, other dogs, or specific triggers, aggression is one of the most common reasons owners contact me. In most cases it stems from the dog assuming a leadership role — and it responds quickly to the right approach.

Anxiety & Fear

Arrow Down

Anxious dogs are not broken — they’re dogs that haven’t been given clear enough boundaries to feel safe. I help owners establish the calm, consistent leadership that allows an anxious dog to relax.

Obsessive Behaviour

Arrow Down

Ball obsession, shadow chasing, spinning — these behaviours escalate when ignored. I identify what’s driving them and give you techniques to interrupt and redirect effectively

Resource Guarding

Arrow Down

Guarding food, toys, spaces or even people is a common behaviour that owners often inadvertently reinforce. I show you exactly how to remove the tension around valued items without confrontation.

Effective dog behaviour training

Every behaviour problem is different. Here’s how I approach the most common issues I see across Norwich and Norfolk:

In-home assessment

I visit you at home, observe the behaviour in context, and identify the root cause — not just the symptom.

Clear rules and boundaries

I give you a simple, minimal set of rules that anyone in the household can apply consistently — no complicated programmes.

Owner education

You leave knowing exactly what to do and why. The change happens because you understand your dog — not because you’re following a script. This is one area where I see Great results as a Dog behaviourist Norwich.

Dog Lead Training

Proper lead behaviour is essential for managing reactive or aggressive dogs, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable walking experience. Walking your dog should be one of the most enjoyable part of your day. If it isn’t, please contact me I promise you these issues can be fixed.

Professional Help

If aggression becomes unmanageable, seek assistance from a dog behaviourist or trainer for aggressive dogs.

Home-Based Training

I conduct training in a familiar environment to keep your dog comfortable. I offer 1-to-1 dog training, working directly with your dog in its home surroundings. As a dog behaviourist Norwich it is important that the issues are resolved in and around your home.

Patience & Persistence

Overcoming aggression takes time. Stay patient and reinforce good behaviour consistently.

An easy five stars. Would recommend Charles to anyone. Our cocker spaniel Barney had been pulling on the lead and had some separation anxiety after moving house and a new addition to the family and Charles fixed this within one session. Charles has also come back for more training with Barney (and us!) which is massively appreciated. He is so knowledgable and very good at articulating to us why Barney does what he does and what we can do. Could not recommend enough.

I cannot recommend Charles enough! He had my very nervous, reactive rescue walking to heel and not reacting to dogs by the end of 1 session. More importantly he taught me what I needed to do to achieve this myself, and by the end of the session, she was doing the same with me. I'm so thankful and excited to now be able to walk her without her constantly scanning for danger. She can finally relax, knowing I will protect her. I'm absolutely amazed at how quickly she has learned this when I have been trying for 5 years to do what what was achieved in less than 2 hrs! After the session, I went straight out with my other dog, using what I had learned and had her walking to heel in 5 mins! We also worked on reacting to the doorbell and that was also much improved and I'm confident, now I know what to do, we'll have that issue sorted in no time. Best money I've ever spent. I am so grateful my dog can finally enjoy her walks without fear

I adopted a foreign rescue who I felt totally out of my depth with. I didn't know how to handle his barking at everything outside or how to stop him running rings around me! Thanks to Charles and his calm leadership approach, Obi is really starting to settle in and adjust to routines. I wouldn't have been able to walk him or enjoy the garden with him with the fantastic input from Charles. I would highly recommend him. The fact that he provides ongoing aftercare is an absolute godsend for when other issues crop up. I owe the relationship and bond that's growing between me and my new dog to the support and guidance of Charles. 10/10!!

From the first conversation, Charles gave me hope. We had been advised previously Oswald had separation issues, Charles gave us a different perspective and with his advice and training guidance we have seen an improvement already. It’s ongoing and Oswald seems to be more relaxed and more dog. The best decision I’ve had, was to make that first contact call.

We had Charles come out to meet our 6 year old dachshund who has issues with guarding and defending the house. We started with some helpful lead walking progress and then moved onto our main issue which was the home and barking. The tools Charles gave us have been simple to implement and work with, they were clear and understandable. Mash has been like a different dog in the week since we have been following those tips and tricks. While we aren’t perfect yet he is coming on so well and being consistent with it I think we will keep seeing amazing things. We had somebody he doesn’t know we’ll visit our home today and usually this would cause so much barking & stress for Mash but he calmed quickly and did not mind this person moving around our home and was calm, happy and friendly. Charles as a trainer was clear, easy going and amazing at spotting problems and explaining as he went. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any issues you may have with any dog.

Charles came to us to help with the training of our five month old German Shepherd - she was over-enthusiastic when greeting other dogs and people. He showed us the correct techniques for lead walking and for setting boundaries and within the space of a few minutes, he had her walking calmly by his side. Although this was just one visit, Charles will always be on hand to return for further advice if and when required. We cannot thank him enough for his help and advice.

Charles has been a lifeline for our family. Our traumatised rescue Ludo went from highly reactive to noticeably calmer and more settled in just a few weeks with his method. He’s always on hand for questions and happy to return for refreshers, although rarely needed — real ongoing support, not a one-off fix. Can’t recommend him enough!

I first contacted Charles a year ago when I first got my 2 year old Australian Shepherd while living in the UK . His advice and support helped immensely getting him settle in to his new home and owner- both Goji and I learned alot and genuinely changed my life. I now live in New Zealand, and needed help with recall and fine tuning a few other behaviours. Charles organised a video call at short notice and again his advice and guidance was life changing- we are now both living our best life here in NZ. Thanks Charles. I highly recommend you and your very straightforward and clear guidance- the impact is almost immediate

We have had a handful of sessions with Charles now and my only wish is that we would have reached out to him sooner. He not only has helped us give our dog confidence and a second chance at life but has also given us the confidence to keep going too. Thank you Charles.

I can’t say enough good things about Charles. My dog was having issue walking on lead and feeling anxious. After the first session my dog was walking on lead perfectly and walking with much more confidence ! I was then able to carry on with the training techniques Charles taught me and I can now walk my pup without having to worry.

What makes your training different from group classes?
Plus Icon

My training is 100% one-on-one, allowing personalised focus on your dog without distractions from other dogs. Each session is conducted in your home, ensuring a comfortable environment for effective learning.

How do you tailor the training for each dog?
Plus Icon

I begin with an in-depth home visit to understand your dog’s environment and behaviours. From there, I create a customised plan that suits your dog’s personality and specific needs, using proven, humane methods.

What issues can your training help resolve?
Plus Icon

My program covers a wide range of challenges, including recall issues, leash pulling, separation anxiety, excessive barking, aggression, hyperactivity, and more. Each plan is designed to eliminate the issues that matter most to you.

What commitment is required from me?
Plus Icon

Training success relies on daily reinforcement. I work closely with you to create a realistic plan, and if adjustments are needed, I offer free phone consultations to ensure both you and your dog are on the path to success.

What can I expect from the initial session?
Plus Icon

Our journey begins with a 2.0-3.0 hour home visit to discuss your goals, observe your dog’s behaviour, and build a customised plan. This foundation helps ensure the training is effective, enjoyable, and tailored to your lifestyle.

What will happen during the training session?
Plus Icon

The session will last for 2.0-3.0 hours and take place in and around your home. During this time, I will have an in-depth discussion with you about the issues you are facing and the dog’s background, including any medical issues. Thereafter I will begin the training with as many members of the household present as possible, so I can teach you the appropriate tips and techniques to use following my visit. The training will also include an explanation of what your dog’s needs are to enable it to have a relaxed and respectful relationship. Thereafter I provide FREE TELEPHONE ADVICE for the duration of the dog’s life. I will of course, gladly return for a second visit but in 90% of cases I only need to see my clients once.
