Separation Anxiety Dog Training Norwich

Is your dog really suffering from separation anxiety?

One of my five star Google reviews for my Dog Training services in Norwich. dog trainer Norwich

My separation anxiety dog training in Norwich gets to the root cause of the problem fast.
The term “separation anxiety” gets used a lot — but true separation anxiety, a genuine phobia of being alone, is actually quite rare in dogs.
What most owners are dealing with is something different: a dog that doesn’t want to be left because it feels responsible for you.
This is a leadership issue, not a medical one. And that’s good news, because it means it can be resolved.

Dogs are pack animals. When a dog takes on the role of pack leader in the home, it feels a responsibility to keep its pack together.
When you walk out of the door, your dog isn’t panicking because it’s scared. It’s reacting because, in its mind, a member of its pack is wandering off unsupervised.
The result is barking, howling, destruction, or distress the moment you leave. Every response that rewards this behaviour makes the problem worse.

Separation Anxiety Dog Training Norwich: The Protocols

What actually makes the difference to separation anxiety

One of the most overlooked factors is what happens at the moment of departure.
There is a direct correlation between how calm and matter-of-fact you are when you leave, and how settled your dog is once you’ve gone. An emotional goodbye tells your dog that leaving is a big deal. It isn’t — and your dog needs to understand that.
I have many different tips and techniques to offer owners to manage their Dogs separation anxiety. Different techniques work for different Dogs, but I can guarantee you will always get a solution.
For further information visit the Kennel Club website.

The rules are simple but non-negotiable. Never return to the house while your dog is making noise. The door does not open until the dog is calm — not quieter, calm. This is the single most important rule, and breaking it once undoes days of progress.
With the right protocols applied consistently, most dogs settle significantly within a couple of weeks.
Your energy when you leave the house and also when you return home are an essential part of showing your dog that you’re coming and going is nothing to be concerned about.
Dogs take their energy and their emotions from us and once you understand what is going on with the dog I am confident you will get the solution you are looking for.

In-Home Training

Separation anxiety....why it has to be done at home

Separation anxiety cannot be resolved in a training class or a consultation room. It happens at home, so that’s where it needs to be addressed.
I visit you in your environment, assess exactly what’s happening, and give you a precise set of rules and techniques tailored to your dog and your home.

There are no quick fixes with separation anxiety, but if the techniques are followed, then it can be resolved in 99% of cases.
I have hundreds of different tips and techniques to address separation anxiety and I find different things work for different dogs, but I always get a solution.

No treats. No complicated programmes. Just clarity — and a dog that’s calm when you close the door behind you. I cover Norwich and Norfolk and respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. Over 107 five-star Google reviews. Featured on BBC Radio Norfolk.
I have been asked to address separation anxiety many times and have always been able to achieve the result that the owner wanted and that the dog deserved. If you would like my help, please contact me today and I will book you in.

What can I expect from the initial session?

Our journey begins with a 2.5-3.0 hour home visit to discuss your goals, observe your dog’s behaviour, and build a customised plan. This foundation helps ensure the training is effective, enjoyable, and tailored to your lifestyle.

What will happen during the training session?
Plus Icon

The session will last for 2.5-3.0 hours and take place in and around your home. During this time, I will have an in-depth discussion with you about the issues you are facing and the dog’s background, including any medical issues. Thereafter I will begin the training with as many members of the household present as possible, so I can teach you the appropriate tips and techniques to use following my visit. The training will also include an explanation of what your dog’s needs are to enable it to have a relaxed and respectful relationship. Thereafter I provide FREE TELEPHONE ADVICE for the duration of the dog’s life. I will of course, gladly return for a second visit but in 90% of cases I only need to see my clients once.
