Dogs Pulling on Lead Norwich — Why It Happens
Dogs pulling on lead Norwich is one of the most common issues owners bring to me — and one of the fastest to fix. It doesn’t matter whether you have a Labrador, a Spaniel or a Terrier — the cause is almost always the same. Your dog has learned that pulling gets it where it wants to go faster.
The good news is that this is one of the quickest behaviours to resolve.
Most owners see a clear difference within the first session – and in 95% of cases within 5 minutes of the training commencing. If your dog is pulling on the lead in Norwich or the surrounding Norfolk area, get in touch and I’ll show you exactly how to fix it — usually in a single visit.
That said, a dog that consistently walks ahead of its owner does reinforce the idea that it leads and you follow. Addressing lead pulling is therefore about more than just comfort on the walk — it’s about establishing the right dynamic from the moment you leave the front door.
Some breeds will have a higher prey drive than others. For further information visit the Kennel Club website
The Technique
The method that works
I use a simple, clear method that produces results fast — often within five minutes.
Allow your dog to walk to the end of a six foot lead.
The moment there is just a small amount of slack remaining, turn 180 degrees and walk the other way.
Your dog experiences a small, brief amount of pressure on the side of its neck — never the front, always the side. It is not painful. It is simply unexpected, and dogs respond to it immediately.
The most common mistake is waiting until the lead is already taut before reacting. By then the dog is already committed to pulling and the correction is too late. The turn must happen before the lead goes tight — that small amount of remaining slack is the trigger.
The second mistake is inconsistency. One walk done correctly followed by three walks where pulling is allowed will undo the progress. Every walk matters, especially in the first two weeks.
If you’re in Norwich or anywhere across Norfolk and your dog is making walks miserable, contact me today. You’ll be amazed how quickly things change.

How quickly will my dog stop pulling on the lead Norwich
Within minutes, most dogs who are pulling on the lead Norwich start monitoring where you are rather than pulling away from you. They begin to understand that you set the direction, not them.
Many Norwich dog owners have tried lead training before — different collars, harnesses, treats, YouTube videos — and still their dog pulls. That’s because the equipment doesn’t fix the underlying dynamic.
Your dog pulls because it believes it should be out front.
Change that belief and the pulling stops.
My approach works with every breed and every age of dog. I’ve worked with tiny Chihuahuas and large German Shepherds, eight-week-old puppies and ten-year-old dogs set in their ways.
The results are the same. One session, clear rules, consistent application.
Most dogs respond well within the first session — often within five minutes. Owners are frequently surprised and obviously thrilled by how fast the change happens. Within two weeks of consistent application by the owner the majority of dogs are walking calmly at their owner’s side without any lead tension at all.
Remember, if you are not seeing the results that you saw during the session, I will always visit you as many times as needed at no additional cost. Approximately 80% of owners only need to see me once.
