Dog recall Training Norwich

Achieving reliable recall

Dog Recall Training Norwich

If your dog ignores you the moment something more interesting appears, you don’t have a recall problem — you have a leadership problem that shows up at distance. A dog that won’t come back has decided that staying with you isn’t the better option. Fix who’s making that decision and recall follows.

Reliable recall is what gives you and your dog freedom: off-lead walks without the knot in your stomach, no more chasing across a field, no more standing in the rain shouting a name your dog has learned to tune out. It’s one of the most common things owners call me about, and one of the most satisfying to put right.

Why most recall training fails

Owners are usually told to practise in the garden with a pocket of treats and slowly add distractions. It works fine in the kitchen and falls apart the second a rabbit breaks cover — because the dog was only ever returning for the food, not for you. When the environment offers something better than the treat, you lose. Recall built on bribery has a ceiling, and every dog finds it eventually. The harder you’ve drilled it the more frustrating that ceiling feels, because you’ve done everything you were told and still can’t trust your dog off the lead.

What my dog recall training involves

My dog recall training starts in your home, where I show you how to become the thing your dog chooses to come back to. It’s built on the same clear, space-based approach I use for every issue: a small set of rules anyone from nine to ninety can apply, no special timing, no carrying a bait bag for the rest of the dog’s life.

Recall is the one situation where I’ll use a reward — but used correctly, as confirmation that the dog made the right choice, not as the reason it came back. That reward sits on top of a relationship where the dog already wants to be near you. That’s the part every other method skips, and it’s why their results stall at the garden gate.

We work through it together, in the real environment where you actually walk your dog, so you can see the change happening rather than taking my word for it. You’ll understand not just what to do but why it works, which is what lets you hold the result long after I’ve left.

What to expect

Most owners see a meaningful change the same day. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got a young spaniel that bolts after every scent or an older rescue that’s never been reliable off the lead — the principle is the same, and so is the result. Recall is rarely an isolated problem either: a dog that won’t come back is usually making its own decisions in other situations too, so we’ll often clear up a few things at once. As with everything I do, my dog recall training is covered by the same guarantee — if it isn’t sorted after two visits I keep working with you at no extra cost until it is, and you have lifetime phone support after that.

Related issues

Recall rarely travels alone. If your dog won’t come back, these often go with it: lead reactivity, aggression and a lack of early structure that’s better addressed through puppy training.

Areas covered

I visit homes across Norwich and the wider Norfolk area, including Sprowston, Thorpe St Andrew, Hellesdon, Costessey, Taverham, Wymondham and Dereham.

What will happen during the training session?
Plus Icon

The session will last for 2.5-3.0 hours and take place in and around your home. During this time, I will have an in-depth discussion with you about the issues you are facing and the dog’s background, including any medical issues. Thereafter I will begin the training with as many members of the household present as possible, so I can teach you the appropriate tips and techniques to use following my visit. The training will also include an explanation of what your dog’s needs are to enable it to have a relaxed and respectful relationship. Thereafter I provide FREE TELEPHONE ADVICE for the duration of the dog’s life. I will of course, gladly return for a second visit but in 90% of cases I only need to see my clients once.
